Warnings
Riders - Please Take Note:
Well, This year the weather was the worst ever seen for this event. On top were wind chill factors of teens and single digits, constant fog, and high wind normally around 35 to 45 mph. If you made it, you beat the mountain, if not try again next year.
Remember that Lightning Kills and there was lightning on the parkway and on top in 2001 & 2002
Make sure that you have plenty of warm clothes waiting on you on top. If you do not then you will be very cold. Rain gear is a must.
For the SAGs.
NC-80 proved to be very dangerous this year with several riders almost being killed by SAGs trying to pass and meeting cars and truck/camper trailer coming down and being unable to stop. How would you like your guy to end up dead? Please do not SAG on NC-80.
The park rangers said that SAGs are not welcome on top of the mountain or for that matter inside the Mt. Mitchell State Park. This is grounds for tickets, not being able to participate again in this event, and could cause the loss of the ride since we have to get a permit. No permit no ride - get it?
We would like to continue to issue the warning:
