I grew up in the South, so we had stations such as WAYS, WBT, WQXI, WBBQ, WIST, WISE, WCOS, plus many others cranking! One of my all time favorites was WKYC 1100 Cleveland, in the 60s! They cooked, with Jack Armstrong, plus others! Of course now they are News Talk WTAM, after years as WWWE.
