Tiger Division

Jae Bum Kwon's Page

I am pleased to thank Jae Bum Kwon for his help in getting in contact with my friends in the Korea Tiger Division.  I had lost all contact with them since the Vietnam war.  I am hoping that someone from the Korean Tiger Division will remember me and be able to answer some questions that I have longed wished to get answers to.

I have received several emails from some of the Korean Vietnam Veterans and I have posted them below for all of the Americans to read.

Please note that they are unedited and as such may be difficult for the Americans to read and understand since they did not spend time the the Korean Tiger Division Troops nor learned how to speak a mixture of Korean / American.

Jae Bum Kwan is studying at Westminster College in Missouri.  His major
was law, but he has switched his major to American Government, Politics
and Business. Jae has studied the History of the Vietnam war for over 3
years. One of his hobbies is collecting old special army things from this
time period.  Jae has now gotten 3 tiger division patches, several of the
original older patch as shown above.  Jae is 24 years old and was born
in Korea  Please note that this took place starting in 2002.
These letters
are as received by email - unedited

I was very impressed while i was looking at your lots of photos that have
the history of over 35 years. Now I feel very glad that we are the war buddies
who attended the Vietnam war together. Moreover I am very grateful that
you showed friendly feeling to the Tiger Korea Army. I'll keep your photos as
long as possible, and I promise that I should look at them often.

Sincerely Yours,

Jin Hyun Choi

(He worked for korean "White horse" div in vietnam. and some people,
who worked for Tiger div in vietnam, want say "thanks to remember us,
do not forget us." to you.  -  Kwon)
To. Mr. Robert Michael

How have you been? I have saw the pictures on the Internet bulletin board
that your Korean student friend was very Impressed to see your lots of
photos. While we were looking at your lots of photos we could look back on
the memory of 35 years ago.

If you didn’t show him those photos, we should have lost of our experience
in the Vietnam. I can guess that you did splendid good job during the War,
because you had been awarded a plaque of thanks by the Korean
commander in chief.

The relation between Korea and U.S.A. is a blood pledge. And we have fight
together to keep the World peace and democracy in the Korean War and The
Vietnam War.

Even the U.S. troops stationed in South Korea at the present time. I wonder
if you correspond with your war buddy regularly.

Here in Korea, our war buddy has set up lots of association and sponsored
memorial events. And meet together regularly. We Korean reserve soldiers
hope that we can fraternize with American reserve soldiers who had
Participated in Vietnam War by correspondence.

So If it is possible for you to play an important role of bridge between us
and the people who had participated in Vietnam as the army soldier
especially in the place of your own town We will be very glad.

Your Korean student friend shall deliver our suggestion because we don’t
know your address. While waiting for your letter, we really hope you and
your family are well and happy.

From Vietnam comrade in Korea on 10 June
